Welcome to Berlitz Edinburgh!

A message from the director:

Recently I was talking to one of our students about why she had come to study in Edinburgh.

‘I need English for work’ she said ‘and at home in Spain I only study or use English for about three hours every week. In Edinburgh, I study and use English from morning till night. Everything I do, going to shops, getting a bus, speaking to people at the accommodation or in pubs and cafes and of course training at Berlitz involves English. You have to use English to survive here and it really makes you learn fast.  I learn as much here in one week as I do in almost a year in Spain.’

I agreed with her that the best and quickest way to learn a language is to go to the country where people speak the language. But I was also interested in why she had chosen Edinburgh.

‘Well’ she laughed ‘ I did not know much about Edinburgh before I came here. I knew, that Sean Connery is from here and that Braveheart was Scottish, but I really didn’t know much more. But Edinburgh is such a wonderful city in so many ways. I will definitely come back again. Maybe I will move here.’

I don’t know if she ever will move here, but she would certainly be very welcome. And what she said about learning the language much faster and in a really fantastic city are words that I hear from our students again and again and again.
