Edinburgh is a busy tourist city and an important commercial centre. Apart from London, Edinburgh has a greater choice of accommodation than anywhere else in Britain.

There are many good quality hotels, guest houses, Bed & Breakfasts, self-catering apartments and host families which are within easy walking distance of the Berlitz school in the town centre and many more which are only a short bus journey away.

There are further choices in the areas around the city and nearby towns that are no more than a 40 minute bus journey or a 15 minute train journey.

Prices vary depending on the days of the week and the time of year.

The busiest times of year are at Christmas and New Year and in the month of August and early September when the world’s largest arts festival is on so plan your trip and book accommodation well in advance to get the best deals.

The summer is also the busiest period for people coming to study English in Edinburgh  However,  there is no difference in cost for host family accommodation at any time of year and at less than 35 GBP per night for bed, breakfast and an evening meal host families are extremely good value for money as well as an excellent way to learn about language and culture.

Prices start at around 35 GBP per night for B&B accommodation and increase to £350 per night for luxury hotels.

  • A room in a B&B or guest house will cost between 35 GBP and 120 GBP
  • A three star hotel will cost between 50GBP and 130 GBP
  • A five star hotel will cost between 90 GBP and 350 GBP
  • A self –catering apartment will cost between 250 GBP and 1300 GBP per week
  • A host family will cost 250 GBP per week plus 50 GBP booking fee.
